Ros-Lehtinen hangs up on Obama. Twice.

I think this was really funny! I mean, why would you think that?

Is Ileana Ros-Lehtinen a little paranoid?

Maybe.

On Wednesday, the Republican congresswoman got a call from President-elect Barack Obama, didn't believe it was him, and hung up on him. Twice.

According to Ros-Lehtinen's flack Alex Cruz, the congresswoman received the call on her cell phone from a Chicago-based number and an aide informed her that Obama wanted to speak to her. When Obama introduced himself, Ros-Lehtinen cut him… Continue

Clinton named secretary of state

Obama announces Clinton, Gates for Cabinet
By LIZ SIDOTI, Associated Press Writer

CHICAGO – President-elect Barack Obama picked a national security team headed by former campaign rival Hillary Rodham Clinton and Bush administration holdover Robert Gates on Monday, and said he wants to consult with military commanders before settling on a firm timetable to withdraw U.S. combat troops from Iraq.

Obama said a newly completed agreement between Iraq and the Bush administration covering U.S. troop p… Continue

Seven killed in Pakistani suicide attack

MINGORA, Pakistan (Reuters) – Seven people were killed on Monday in a suicide attack aimed at a military checkpost in northwest Pakistan's Swat Valley, military officials said.

"The attacker prematurely blew himself before he reached the checkpost. Only one soldier was wounded but seven civilians traveling in two cars passing by were killed," said one of the military officials, who declined to be identified.

Protesters move to besieged airports

BANGKOK, Thailand – Anti-government protesters camped at Thailand's government seat were shifting tactics to join colleagues at Bangkok's besieged airports Monday as the politically paralyzed country struggled with more than 300,000 stranded travelers.

A leader of the People's Alliance for Democracy said demonstrators will end their more than three-month sit-in at the prime minister's office compound and move to both Bangkok airports, which they seized last week in their push to oust the govern… Continue

India-Pakistan relations strained as Mumbai attacks probed

The aftermath of this week's terrorist attacks that killed nearly 180 people in Mumbai has strained India's already tenuous relationship with Pakistan, as India investigates its nuclear neighbor's alleged ties to the massacre. Pakistan says India has yet to offer any proof.

Indian authorities say this man, suspected of being a gunman in the Mumbai attack, claims he is Pakistani.

Obama team reacts to Mumbai attacks

The Obama Transition team's chief national security spokesperson, Brooke Anderson, released a statement late Wednesday reacting to the attacks in Mumbai, India:

"President-Elect Obama strongly condemns today's terrorist attacks in Mumbai, and his thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and the people of India. These coordinated attacks on innocent civilians demonstrate the grave and urgent threat of terrorism. The United States must continue to strengthen our partnerships wit… Continue

New battle brews on Capitol Hill: Dems vs. Dems

Congressional Democrats have a bigger majority than they've enjoyed in decades, but that doesn't necessarily mean there will be unity on Capitol Hill.

Rep. Henry Waxman successfully toppled Rep. John Dingell for a key chairmanship.

A new battle may be brewing as Democrats fighting Democrats show evidence of a party divide.

The growing Democratic majority could be in deadlock from within on issues ranging from climate change and energy to health care and social security.

"We're not just talk… Continue

Which hero do we want Obama to be?

America loves its heroes and Barack Obama has already become one. In fact, he's become several.

U.S. President-elect Barack Obama, right, with former U.S. President Bill Clinton, left.

Remember, Obama hasn't taken office as president, only glimpsed the Oval Office as a visitor and won't take over until January 20.

But already, he's being compared to the most remarkable leaders the United States has ever had.

The way some Americans talk, they're getting five presidents in one.

John F. Kenne… Continue

Palin back on the campaign trail

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is adding her name to the list of big-name surrogates who are making campaign cameos in the last remaining Senate election this year.

Sarah Palin hits the campaign trail Sunday and Monday for GOP Sen. Saxby Chambliss of Georgia.

Palin teams up with Sen. Saxby Chambliss at a fundraiser Sunday night and at four campaign stops across Georgia on Monday, the last full day of campaigning before Tuesday's runoff election.

Chambliss is the freshman Republican senator from Geo… Continue
